Monster is based on the true story of Aileen Wuornos, known as the US’ first female serial killer.

She worked as a prostitute in 1989/90 along the main roads of Daytona Beach, Florida, but when a customer got violent, she killed him and took his car. Perhaps in self-defence. Perhaps because she had had enough.

After this, murder becomes her way of life, killing seven men in a year. Somewhere along the way she meets the woman Tyria Moore with whom she finds love. But the police are on their tail and in the end, Aileen is caught, jailed, condemned and executed.
