Wolfgang Menardi, stage designer

Born in Innsbruck, Austria in1977.

After studying acting at the Otto-Falckenberg-Schule, Munich, he was engaged as an actor at the Münchner Kammerspiele, the Théâtre National de la Colline Paris, the Théâtre National de Strasbourg, the Thalia Theater Hamburg, the Schauspiel Köln and the RuhrTriennale. Until 2011 he was part of the ensemble of the Bavarian State Theater in Munich. He has been working as a freelancer since 2012, most recently at the Theater Basel and the Deutsches Theater Berlin.

In 2005, in addition to his acting activities, he began studying architecture at the University of the Arts in Berlin. From 2007 he has been working most of his time as a stage and costume designer in France, Germany Austria and Switzerland.  Some of his professional stations were Burgtheater Vienna, Thalia Theatre Hamburg, Theatre Basel, Deutsches Theater Berlin, Schauspiel Frankfurt, Berliner Ensemble, Maxim Gorki Theatre Berlin, Volkstheater Vienna, Staatsschauspiel Hannover, Schauspielhaus Düsseldorf, Residenztheatre Munich, Munich Kammerspiele, Schauspiel Cologne, State Theatre Stuttgart.

Wolfgang has previously worked with Falk Richter on In My Room på Maxim Gorki Theater in Berlin and Heldenplatz på Münchner Kammerspiele, both in 2020.

He works regularly with the directors Thom Luz, Yael Ronen, Bastian Kraft, Thorleifur Orn Arnarsson, Miloš Lolic, Bernadette Sonnenbichler, and Alexander Nerlich. 

Wolfgang Menardi has been nominated for the best set designer of the year in Germany several times and he was nominated for the renowned Faust Prize for the set for Genesis, directed by Yael Ronen at Münchner Kammerspiele 2018.
