The Nutcracker

The Nutcracker

Art: Ballet
Venue: The Old Stage
Premiere: 01/12 2017

The masterpiece The Nutcracker is back. Christmas feeling will abound, when young Marie sets out on a perilous and magical journey with her prince.

Imagination and poetry know no boundaries as we are transported by Tchaikovsky’s breathtaking and iconic music from the Stahlbaum family’s cosy Christmas celebrations to the magical wonderland, where anything can happen.

The wondrous tale of the magic nutcracker was written in 1816 by the eccentric, German author E.T.A. Hoffmann, and it was his French choreographer Marius Petipa, who in 1892 was the first to choreograph the story. Since then the ballet has become the number one classic Christmas piece, and George Balanchine’s masterly edition from 1954 may be the greatest of them all.

Balanchine’s ballet was created for children, but at the same time it speaks to an adult audience with its elegant, classical choreography. An irresistible piece, which speaks to everyone, who loves Christmas.

We wish to thank the Annie and Otto Johs. Detlefs’ Foundation (OJD) for the generosity, which has made the production of The Nutcracker possible.
