Art: Concert |
Welcome to the opening of the Royal Danish Orchestra’s concert season and a concert with great classics, a world premiere and an encounter with the Royal Danish Theatre’s future chief conductor, Alexander Vedernikov.
Vedernikov’s tenure as chief conductor will begin with the 2018/2019 season, but he is already a frequent visitor to the Royal Danish Theatre.
This year’s concert season opens with a world premiere by Austrian composer Johannes Maria Staud, one of the most noteworthy young composers of our day. The piece Stromab – meaning “downstream” – was commissioned by the Royal Danish Theatre for the Royal Danish Orchestra.
Tchaikovsky is a musical storyteller, who with captivating and colourful harmonies has the unique ability to evoke fantastical images in the imagination of his listeners. His ballets Swan Lake and The Nutcracker are among the most popular pieces in the classical repertoire, and in an encounter with his 5th Symphony, we are reminded that we are listening to the work of a master of ballet music.
The amazing swedish mezzosoprano Anna Larsson sings a programme by Mahler and Richard Strauss.
