Tove! Tove! Tove!

Tove! Tove! Tove!

By Sort Samvittighed

The life and literary works of Danish author and poet Tove Ditlevsen freely interpreted by the artist collective Sort Samvittighed

"You either haft to take a dump or get off the bucket, we used to say back in my childhood street, but I was never an either/or person, so I wanted everything at once." – Tove Ditlevsen

We celebrate the 100th anniversary of Tove Ditlevsen's birth by reviving the artist collective Sort Samvittighed's ("Black conscience") personal interpretations of the life and work of Tove Ditlevsen – a relentless portrayal of life in the true spirit of Tove Ditlevsen.

Tove! Tove! Tove! was a box-office hit in 2015 and 2016 at both the Play House and on tour throughout Denmark. The production was awarded with the Reumert Award for Best Music Performance as well as Teaterforeningernes Pris as the best Touring Production in 2015.

Tove Ditlevsen's life and work melted together when she gave Danish readers a ruthlessly honest insight into her unhappy marriages, drug addiction, depressions, psychiatric admissions, and alcoholism – while simultaneously giving family and relationship advice to readers of her popular advice column in a Danish magazine.

Full of both paradox and public appeal, Tove Ditlevsen was a neurotic one-of-a-kind party animal and lover of life with a huge appetite for life and men.
