La fanciulla del West
By: Giacomo Puccini
A masterpiece about the quest for happiness.
There are many strong women in the world of opera, and some of the most significant are found in the operas of Puccini. On this list of great heroines we find Minnie – the focal point of Puccini’s masterpiece La fanciulla del West.
Minnie is the owner of the local bar in a rough, poor town. Here, every day is about survival and about finding happiness despite life’s hardships. Amidst the harsh life in the small town, Minnie manages to add a little colour to the world and create a small breathing space for the exhausted workers.
But Minnie’s oasis is threatened when she falls in love with an outlaw on the run and has to fight for her love and for the chance to start a new life with her love by her side.
La fanciulla del West is conducted by Alexander Vedernikov who will become The Royal Danish Orchestra’s Chief Conductor in 2018.
La fanciulla del West is performed in Italian with Danish surtitles.
