Carmen is a free woman. She pursues her passions unfettered by the restrictions society reserves for women.

The Spanish choreographer Marcos Morau bases this production on the original novel by Prosper Mérimée, in which the man is unable to give his lover freedom and begins a dramatic descent into Hell, driven by the deepest primal instincts: passion and revenge.

Morau has his own distinctive style. He gives the story new settings and changes the course of events before the very eyes of the audience. Both real life and fiction can be affected when we take control ourselves. Fiction can even give us a second chance – that rarely happens in real life.
