Il trovatore is performed in Italian with Danish surtitles.
Co-production with Teatro Real in Madrid and Opéra Monte Carlo.
An opera thriller as black as ink about bitter human thirst for revenge, pointless anger and smouldering lust.
Verdi’s thriller about vengeance, love and family feuds is cut to the bone in this new staging.
A Count sentences a gypsy woman to die at the stake. The woman’s daughter seeks retaliation by throwing the Count's son into the flames but makes a fateful mistake. One generation later, the two families are still haunted by hate and revenge.
Francisco Negrin’s new staging of Verdi’s classic reveals the plot of Il trovatore more clearly than ever and poses the eternal question: How will there be room for life and love as long as we let the ghosts of the past determine our future actions?
The team of singers includes many leading lights from the Royal Danish Opera. Susanne Resmark and Randi Stene share the role of gypsy woman Azucena, David Kempster is Count Luna, and Gisela Stille is the troubadour Manrico’s beloved Leonora.
